O livro documenta as atrocidades cometidas por dois dos regimes mais letais da Hist\u00f3ria \u2013 o Nazismo e o Estalinismo \u2013 e o impacto devastador sobre milh\u00f5es de pessoas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Snyder baseia-se em fontes in\u00e9ditas e numa investiga\u00e7\u00e3o aprofundada para expor como estas duas ditaduras orquestraram fomes artificiais, execu\u00e7\u00f5es em massa e genoc\u00eddios, nomeadamente o Holocausto. Ao focar-se nos territ\u00f3rios mais atingidos \u2013 Pol\u00f3nia, Ucr\u00e2nia, Bielorr\u00fassia e os estados b\u00e1lticos \u2013, revela um quadro de viol\u00eancia que ultrapassa a narrativa convencional da Segunda Guerra Mundial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Este livro \u00e9 considerado essencial para compreender as fragilidades das democracias e os perigos do totalitarismo, temas que continuam atuais.
